We briefly discussed the topics that we have tackled last Monday about the pre-colonial period as well as Philippine History and its importance in engaging to Foreign policy. Foreign policy on its definition, process and time line were the topics that we have discussed last Monday.
On FP’s definition, Foreign Policy is the extension of domestic policies which includes the plans on how a country creates relations with other nations. There are three main structures that comprise Foreign policies which are: first, National interest and territorial integrity, second is Economic progress and lastly is the Protection of nationals. These three pillars were enforced on former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s 8 realities. Drafting of foreign policies includes the time line which are: Immediate, Midterm and Long term. On the other hand, Foreign Policy process includes Decision making which is performed by the Action itself, and then Implementation by the use of diplomacy, Results and consequences on a given situation that will serve as the mechanism for evaluation. Lastly, Evaluation will serve as an instrument to Adjust in decision making. So to sum it all up, Foreign policy is a Cycle wherein all parts of it affect each other and it is a continuous process of formulation and implementation.
I actually learned a lot from the discussion, and yes, we are working on our group work regarding our topic which will be reflected through the application of the foreign policy process and that will help us made critical thoughts as well as analysis on our proposal. I believe this will be a big help for us in preparation on our future profession.
